Christmas is a sacred holiday for Christians and Catholics of all denominations. We are celebrating the birth of Jesus. Christmas is not about gift giving, Santa Clause, or even family. Christmas is about the celebration of the birth of the son of God and that is it. Don't get me wrong, I am not against giving gifts and getting together with family and friends. I am just tired of all of the "political correctness" trying to appease everyone.
The first thing that I can remember changing was instead of Christmas everyone started changing it to X-mas. To me X-mas is stupid and disrespectful. They say that X-mas is more politically correct because there are a lot of non-believers celebrating Christmas and they should remove Christ from the title. Why? Why should we have to remove Christ from the celebration of His birth? In my opinion, if you do not believe in Jesus as the son of God then you should not be celebrating Christmas. Most of all we should not have to modify the meaning of the holiday to make others feel better about encroaching on our celebration. I don't agree with any non-believer's celebrating a religious holiday. The atheists and other non-believing groups even took the changes a step farther. People have claimed that X-mas is even offensive because the "X" still symbolizes Christ. Now the politically correct thing to say is "Happy Holidays". How can someone get offended by a holiday that is not even their's to celebrate? All of you non-believers need to just leave all religious celebrations, ceremonies, and beliefs alone. Everyone has the right to believe what they want. When someone forces somebody else to completely change the meaning of their beliefs it becomes oppression. I thought that we are supposed to have freedom of religion and freedom of speech. I guess that freedom means you are only free to choose but not express unless you believe in nothing. I see a lot of atheists groups protesting all religions all over. There was even an atheist club at the college I attended and they were approaching other students and attempting to discredit all of their beliefs. How is that okay to verbally attack individuals but it is not okay to say Christmas because it may offend someone? I am sick of the attack on religion and I think we should stop all of the politically correct nonsense. It is called freedom of speech so instead of getting offend people need to just grow thicker skin and get over it. Everyone has their own beliefs and if you don't like what someone else believes in then go somewhere where freedom of religion is not tolerated.
